Alfalfa Weevils Hit Ohio Fields This Spring
In Ohio, alfalfa weevils are widespread with damage reported up to 90 percent in some areas. Extension entomologist D Blair of Ohio State University notes parasite releases have established at least one species in the state. Fields with parasite protection should be checked weekly for damage while unprotected fields, especially post harvest, should be inspected biweekly to catch bud and second growth losses, and control or harvest should occur within days if terminals show significant damage and multiple larvae are found.
