Communist Scientists on West Coast May Be Investigated
Washington AP report says the House Un American Activities Committee may send an investigator to the West Coast to probe reports that atomic scientists there belonged to a wartime Communist group. Names of several scientists and others who attended a 1942 Oakland meeting are cited as leads to trace potential Soviet leakage from UC Berkeley radiation lab. The panel cites Steve Nelson as a wartime Soviet agent who allegedly obtained an atomic formula from a so called Scientist X at Berkeley in 1943.
