Humphrey Declines Stop Kennedy Move in Nomination Fight
Senator Hubert H. Humphrey of Minnesota said he will not join any Stop Kennedy effort at the Democratic nominating convention. He plans to hold about 100 votes on the first ballot and then decide which candidate to back. Humphrey, who suspended his own campaign after West Virginia, still claims support from Minnesota, South Dakota, DC, and Wisconsin delegates, plus scattered pledges from other states. He noted no ill will toward Kennedy and said he could support him if Kennedy is the nominee. Kennedy, meanwhile, seeks support from New Jersey and Spokane delegates as he vies with Johnson and Symington for the 1960s Spokane delegation.
