The Ohio House Ways and Means Committee approved a tax credit bill 10 to 3 despite a $24 million annual cost cited by the administration. The measure grants a 10 percent state income tax credit for working couples filing joint state returns and exempts military personnel stationed outside Ohio for eight months or more.
Athens reports the Greek army junta arrested two retired admirals from three navy ships before a Wednesday coup could be carried out. One admiral, Constantine Engofopoulos, had been navy chief of staff under the 1967 seizure. The government praised Gen. Odysseas Anghelis for quickly taking control, calling the plot an operetta.
US envoy William H. Sullivan met President Thieu for an hour in Saigon to push a draft plan for a tougher cease fire. Sullivan then conferred with Foreign Minister Tran Van Lam as Kissinger and Thao discussed a Paris proposal and progress toward a final agreement. Meanwhile Watergate hearings continued with McCord's former lawyer Alch disputing his client’s motives and asserting the President was targeted.
