The QE2 and 2350 aboard steamed toward Europe after a New York extortion threat claimed six bombs on the 65,000-ton liner. Bomb disposal experts parachuted in. no bombs found. The call demanded 350000 in ransom and warned two killers would trigger the explosion.
Space agency sources say the United States and the Soviet Union are ready to sign a joint manned space flight agreement during President Nixon's Moscow trip next week.
A Pentagon blast in a women’s restroom on the fourth floor’s E Ring caused heavy damage but no injuries. A caller claimed retaliation for U.S. bombing in Vietnam, while security measures were set to tighten hours later.
Middletown attorney Vincent Sisson prepares a 4000 mile voyage aboard the 35 foot sloop Lydia with wife Fran joining for the New London leg. They will sail via Sandusky Buffalo New York and New London gathering supplies including 260.94 dollars worth of non perishables and 114 unrefrigerated eggs. Paul Berry will captain the final leg with Joe Berry and David Bell aboard. The trip’s final date targets June 12 depending on weather.
Passengers and crew escaped as fire crews sprayed foam on the burning DC9 after a landing crash during a rain storm. Six passengers and four crew were aboard. captain and one stewardess hurt, first officer and others uninjured. The tail broke off and debris scattered along the runway.
