Stevenson says UN social whirl wears thin for U N ambassador
Adlai E. Stevenson told a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee that attending two to three parties daily at the United Nations is draining though he continues for the sake of small nations. He cited the need to appear at gatherings as they track invited guests. Rep H R Gross cited a Saturday Evening Post piece titled This is the U N at Play and read about corridor ladies, a part of the social scene Stevenson said he does not recognize. He noted the magazine is not one of his favorites and that the piece also portrayed him as pushing a soft Cuban policy.
