A refugee leader said 12 East Germans fled to West Berlin through a tunnel on May. The tunnel measured 108 feet and required 16 days to complete. Police of East Germany reportedly found the tunnel five days after the escape with West Berlin authorities’ approval.

Hoffa Pleads Innocent In Assault Case Trial Set

Teamsters President James P Hoffa pleaded innocent to a charge of assaulting union aide Samuel Baron. A jury trial was set for June 19 at Municipal Court in Washington. Baron, with injuries, filed the complaint Thursday. Deputy U S marshals guarded his home overnight. Hoffa was booked, fingerprinted and released on an $800 bond after being questioned at Teamsters headquarters.
