Old Issue On Garbage Back In Local Court

The Middletown court revived a long standing garbage dispute. Carl Cheesman 49 of Monroe pleaded guilty to hauling garbage without a license and received a $10 fine suspended. Attorney Max Finkelman said he would press the matter with City Commissioners as Cheesman was hired by Reedy Grocery to correct an unhealthy condition after Middletown Service Co. failed to provide daily service. Reedy Co owner Leonard Reedy said the contract shifted after repeated failures and Health Department intervention. City sanitarium John Otterbein confirmed past conditions but had not been called recently. Cheesman was arrested while delivering refuse to the city disposal grounds near the Great Miami River after warnings to four service company drivers and a Manchester Hotel hauler. Disposal supervisor Jesse Dennis said Cheesman had been told he could not haul there but persisted. Cheesman noted this was his first court appearance.
