Owen J Roberts Dies at 80 in Phoenixville Home
Retired U S Supreme Court justice Owen J. Roberts died of a heart attack at 9 25 a m CST at his home in Phoenixville Pa He was 80 last May 2 and had retired from the bench in 1945 His widow and his daughter Elizabeth Hamilton were at his bedside Roberts was named to the high court in 1930 by former President Hoover He influenced key New Deal cases and sometimes shifted between liberal and conservative stances in his votes.

Navy Sets Underwater Blast Off
The defense department announced a small underwater atomic test off the U S west coast to develop new anti submarine weapons. A nine ship task group under Rear Adm Momsen conducted the exercise with submarines submerged near the blast. The first underwater nuclear test sank nine vessels with a force of 20000 tons of TNT, similar to the Hiroshima Nagasaki explosions.

Weather turns cooler after warm spell across region
