Deputy sheriff Fd Blagrave reported attempting to serve a divorce-related court order at a mother’s home in Mission Kansas. The woman refused the summons, set a fire with a match saying God is my witness, prayed during the act, then thanked him as he left. she pledged to pray for him.
Panmunjom reports say Capt. Ren W. Stutts and Capt. Carleton W. Voltz were released to Seoul after gunfire downed their helicopter. U.N. Command admitted espionage and border violation, while North Korea claimed the men were on a criminal espionage mission near the DMZ.
Washington ends a Saturday Senate session as Southern senators mull boycotting a Democratic caucus on Tuesday to discuss amendments. Dixie leaders like Richard Russell and John Stennis consider not attending while Mansfield from Montana invites all Democrats to a Tuesday conference with Dirksen Kennedy. Mock raced Guam to Oakland in about 22.45 miles and finished two percent faster than Smith’s Guam to Oakland leg. Smith, following Earhart’s route, took over three weeks with mechanical issues and denied initiating a showdown challenge.
Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower says he will not endorse any candidate for the presidential nomination. He told AP in a Friday night interview he wants to stay neutral to soothe ruffled feelings during and after the convention.
In Chicago a 16 year old, Eric Watts, died after a Friday night dispute between two juvenile gangs. A dentist, Dr. Howard Apple, was shot in the hand and ankle while nearby. Three other injured were members of one gang.

Lyman Nein 60 of 312 Yankee Road Middletown died from a massive hemorrhage after his left arm was severed by a garage window during a stumble. Coroner Dr. Garrett Boone ruled the death accidental. He had been visiting his stepson Jack Metzear in Trenton the previous night and was active in local real estate. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Riggs Funeral Home.
