Michael Barr twenty four pleaded guilty to breaking into an office with intent to commit a felony after a safe he wheeled out on a hand truck broke his leg when it fell. Magistrate A J Dunn sentenced Barr to two years probation and urged him to recover and find work.
Mrs Gordon Cooper prepared for a Hawaii reunion with her husband as his Faith 7 capsule completed a near perfect launch from Cape Canaveral. Trudy Cooper and her two daughters Camala and Janita watched the televised lift off and spoke by phone before the flight.

Budapest AP United States and Hungary’s Communist government reportedly agreed to let Cardinal Mindszenty travel to Rome. Vatican high sources foresee the 71 year old primate of Hungary taking a senior Vatican post in a few days. The deal, if confirmed, could pave the way for resumed U S Hungary relations and ease Vatican Hungary ties. Mindszenty, sentenced to life in 1949 for treason, was freed in 1956 and has been in the U S Legation in Budapest since.
Moscow reports Oleg Penkovsky 44 is executed after the Presidium refused clemency. Wynne 44 received eight years confinement for allegedly acting as a courier in the Soviet espionage case.
Liberty Township resident John Lapp, 39, shot his wife Marilyn, 38, in the back with a shotgun, moved her body outside, and then killed himself in the yard. Deputies from Trumbull County reported the double tragedy amid divorce threats.
