Wage-Hour Act attacked in courts by private counsel
United Mine Workers Journal reports the government funds wage hour challenges via wartime contractors. Private lawyers defend back pay and overtime suits, with fees charged to the government through agencies like the Mantime Commission, the Air Force and the Army and Navy. The comptroller general prohibits such charges, but wording in contracts broadens access to millions in fees. The journal says court victories have undermined the act. There is also a note that Sundays see more fatal traffic accidents.
