Breakup in Rhodesia avoided amid interim government row
Bishop Abel Muzorewa's United African National Council will stay in the interim Rhodesian government though tensions rise after Byron Howe, a MNAC justice minister, was fired by a nine member Executive Council. Muzorewa objects to actions taken without him and accuses officials of delaying racial reform. The pact, signed with Ian Smith, aims for universal suffrage by year end but is opposed by Nkomo and Mugabe who seek control.
