Wonders Of The Universe On Moon Vehicle Design
Dr J M Levitt notes lunar operation will differ from driving a car as no burning fuel is possible in the moon’s vacuum. He cites Oberth’s gyrobus, a 10 ton vertical craft with a gyroscope, capable of jumping gaps, but impractical due to weight and energy needs. NASA and Russian efforts favor a solar powered, robot precursor with solar arrays, addressing lubrication, heat, and lack of atmosphere issues.
