Republican members of the House Ways and Means Committee say they will oppose any extension of the excess profits tax on business. Chairman Daniel A Reed indicated hearings may not be held soon as the administration prepares tax recommendations and budget-balancing estimates. The tax, bringing in about 24 billion dollars yearly, expires June 30 without extension.
