House GOP pushes federal crime bill to curb street gangs
Republicans press a measure to make gang attacks federal crimes with long prison terms or the death penalty. The bill would broaden capital punishment for gang crimes, try 16 and 17 year olds as adults in federal court, and raise the statute of limitations for violent crimes to 15 years. It seeks 387.5 million to fight street crime while facing Democratic opposition over cost and emphasis on punishment.
