Isolation Boxes Destroyed at Georgia School
Harris County elementary school officials tore down two open-top plywood isolation boxes after parents complained. Built by order of Principal H B Floyd without the superintendent’s knowledge, the windowless boxes housed a 9 year-old pupil for hours amid a dispute with classmates. One in 10 births by Cesarean now
CHICAGO AP The delivery of children by Cesarean section has more than doubled in the last decade with more than one in ten babies born that way. Dr Allan Charles of the University of Chicago says the rise means healthier babies by reducing harm in difficult deliveries and cites a 1976 study linking abnormal labor to later IQ drops and speech, hearing, and learning defects. He notes changing attitudes toward fetal wellbeing and says maternal risk is slightly higher but benefits outweigh risks.
