A stray puppy found aboard the U S Navy carrier Valley Forge in Yokosuka evaded deck watch, was given milk and warmth, later enlisted in naval service as Coddy with ribbons and ID, then flew off for Korea with a sailor on emergency leave. Coddy becomes the first dog to wing off the carrier and is slated for shore duty coddling.

Pvt William E Oliver arrived in Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division, a unit noted for Heartbreak Ridge and Old Baldy actions. First Lt Ambrose H Clement, son of Ambrose Clement of Lebanon, graduates from the Medical Field Service School in Korea combat zone, part of Eighth Army’s 52nd Medical Battalion. He was a surgeon before Army service and studied at Kentucky State College and Howard University.
