Royalist Forces As Laos Reds Advance Clash Across Mekong

Royal Laotian troops fled into Thailand as pro Communist forces seized Houei Sai beyond the cease fire line. Pathet Lao drove toward Nam Tha and captured the government outpost on the Mekong border, threatening a northwest Laos occupation. Doubts rose in Washington over neutralist and anti Communist plans as Souvanna Phouma urged restraint and Souphanouvong faced new setbacks. The Red advance followed Nam Tha’s fall despite a cease fire.
