In Seattle Glenn says the God he prays to is not small enough to be seen in space and he saw no God while in orbit Titov, during his 17 orbits, says he saw no God or angels. Glenn insists belief transcends a space trip and cannot be limited by it.
Royal Laotian troops fled into Thailand as pro Communist forces seized Houei Sai beyond the cease fire line. Pathet Lao drove toward Nam Tha and captured the government outpost on the Mekong border, threatening a northwest Laos occupation. Doubts rose in Washington over neutralist and anti Communist plans as Souvanna Phouma urged restraint and Souphanouvong faced new setbacks. The Red advance followed Nam Tha’s fall despite a cease fire.
President Kennedy convened advisers to map options to halt renewed Laos conflict and what to do if hostilities persist. Rebels reported gains near Houei Sai on the Mekong amid alarms that US forces might be drawn in to sustain anti Communist government forces led by Gen Phoumi.
Firemen probed debris of Maumee Chemical Co plant after Thursday blast killed nine employees and injured 46. One body still unaccounted for.
