Steel Production Said Certain To Decline
New steel orders may be near a low, but a pickup will not reverse the week to week downtrend in production Iron Age Magazine said. Current new order rates are as low as 42 to 48 percent of capacity in mills while production remains above that level. Even if orders rise, production will have to continue its decline. The national weekly notes signs of weakening in galvanized and tinplate inventories and a general drop in spirits for steel products.
