Soong Opposes Taiwan Independence Ahead of Beijing Meeting
Taiwanese opposition leader James Soong told Shanghai business executives that Taiwan independence would spark war and disaster. He, head of the People First Party, plans to meet Chinese President Hu Jintao in Beijing to push for dialogue and closer economic ties amid cross strait tensions. He noted many Taiwanese firms invest about 100 billion dollars in China since the 1990s. Soong’s trip follows Lien Chan’s high level talks with Beijing.
