Washington AP reports a nationwide effort to sponsor Indochina refugees. Citizens are asked to provide whether they call as an individual or group, specific family or general aid, and whether aid is temporary or long term including food housing clothes or jobs. A toll free line 800-368-1180 operates 8 am to midnight EDT with 16 phones and messages sent to the Inter-Agency Task Force.

Freedom Bridge evacuees cross to Thailand after Cambodia ordeal
The last 550 foreigners trapped in Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge crossed the Freedom Bridge into Thailand ending a three week ordeal. Evacuees included about 230 French, 200 Pakistanis and 120 others with four Americans among them. Officials said most were in good health though one elderly French evacuee remained seriously ill. A plane stood by to airlift him to a hospital.

Three Downtown Toledo Buildings Destroyed by Large Fire
A major fire in Toledo Ohio engulfed a block along the Maumee River destroying three vacant buildings and damaging Home Furniture Co.
