Auto Workers Still Owe 43.7 Million in Debts
DETROIT AP The United Auto Workers Union still owes 43.7 million borrowed last year to fund its 67 day strike against General Motors and 19 day walkout at International Harvester. UAW has repaid GM 32.4 million and IH 1 million, and repaid 5 million of a 10 million Steelworkers loan. As of March 31 strike fund balance stood at 5.5 million, down from 119.1 million last Aug. The union still owes 25 million to the Teamsters 10.6 million to banks 5 million to Steelworkers 3 million to United Rubber Workers and 121 thousand to various UAW locals.
