Extradition Permitted For Paul Lyon To Ohio Prison
Gov Dan McCarty signed an order allowing the extradition of Paul David Lyon to Ohio to begin a sentence of one to 20 years for forging signatures of 13 patients at a Canton rest home to cast absentee ballots. Lyon was recuperating from a reported heart attack in St. Petersburg private sanitarium. Laxity Report Details Trust Fund Lapses at Cleveland State Hospital
Ohio State Auditor James A. Rhodes disclosed an audit revealing wholesale laxity in handling patient trust funds at Cleveland State Hospital. Records showed 1,537 cancelled checks totaling 54524 from Aug 5 1947 to July 1 1951 issued by a former clerk for the industrial and entertainment fund. The examiner found no fund shortage as the practice stopped after the clerk resigned. The clerk used funds as salary advances to employees working in Cleveland stores, allowing purchases without sales tax. An additional audit of patients funds showed $16000 in bonds purchased by patients were not in their names.
