Okinawans Face Currency Shift As Reversion Nears
Okinawa residents brace for currency reversion as Japan’s rate floats. About 1 million Okinawans will exchange dollars for yen with special privileges to ease the transition. Individual registrations allow exchange at roughly 53 yen per dollar, while earlier cash and bank deposits were converted. Some certificates are being sold or used in unintended ways as the change approaches.
