Administration backs private development of western power
Washington reports the Eisenhower administration will favor private hydroelectric development over public power for a major Western project. Interior Secretary McKay announced setting aside Hell's Canyon dam plans on the Oregon Idaho border and allowing Idaho Power to build the first Snake River dam for 23 million dollars if approved by the Federal Power Commission. He noted fiscal constraints and said future cases will be judged on their own merits while stressing this is policy not a formal decree.
