Levee Road Delay Sets Next Construction Season
City officials said levee highway east of the Miami River cannot start until the Miami Conservancy Court finalizes an assessment roll of benefited property owners, likely late September or October. The project area spans about 1,500 acres including Avalon, city land west of the Middletown Hydraulic Canal, and nearby farms. Local zoning debates surfaced around Johnson's Cafe on Michigan Avenue, with residents calling the area a public nuisance and concerns for youth safety. Additional items included parking restrictions on Nelbar Street, an air cooling vault under Canal Street, emergency parking ordinances on Garfield and Baltimore, a congested traffic area near Clinton Canal with 93 meters, and city actions on sewer sump relocation, staff appointments, and facility use requests.
