ABC Plans Strong Third in TV Standings Says Rule
Elton Rule new ABC president predicts ABC will narrow the gap with NBC and CBS next season. He cites UHF/VHF distribution, 150 affiliated stations versus about 200 for rivals, and a leaner schedule with fewer specials and more conventional but still unconventional programming including Africa and Jacques Cousteau. He notes upcoming convention coverage and a 90 minute nightly wrap up as key primes.

Admirable Crichton TV adaptation falls short of original
Cynthia Lowry notes NBC aired Sir James Barrie’s The Admirable Crichton as part of Hall of Fame. The 20th century satire about class shifts struggles in tone and relevance with Bill Travers as Crichton and Virginia McKenna as the lord’s daughter.

Hall of Fame offers visual splendor despite uneven comedy
The program features striking sets and costumes that decorate a 90 minute show. Although the satire lands poorly at times and the jokes feel dated, the production remains a visual treat and confirms Hall of Fame shows as elaborate and costly ventures with comedy posing the main challenge.
