DiSalle seeks impartial review of Ohio mental patient bills
Gov Michael DiSalle, stung by criticism of his plan to recover long overdue bills for care of state mental patients, asked Dr Charles Bush of the American Psychiatric Association to review the program and Ohio laws. He said Bush agreed by phone to study the issue and issue recommendations. DiSalle maintained he would not let personal views affect the program and noted reports of suspending collections are incorrect. He ordered the attorney general to pursue about 260000 dollars in overdue bills, aiming for up to 25 million dollars while avoiding hardship for relatives of nonpaying patients. He cited first eight months of the current bookkeeping year and compared expenditures with the prior year, and asked Bush to assess possible harmful therapeutic impact of the collection effort.
