Subcommittee to draft Ohio school financial legislation
A six member subcommittee named by House Finance Chairman Myrle H. Shoemaker will draft a bill to help financially troubled Ohio school districts. Rep. Larry H. Christman chairs the panel with Reps. Waldo Bennett Rose Francine Panehal John E Johnson Deere Frederick H. Deering Robert Taft II and Richard Meier. The group plans hearings and will avoid state aid, aiming to prevent deeper district deficits. The Budget Office warns up to 130 districts could close without more funds, while the Senate study focuses on Cleveland schools.
