Mead Plans Divestiture of 23 to 27 Paper Merchants
Mead Corp will divest 23 to 27 Mead owned paper merchant distributors in 19 states under a consent decree with the Justice Department. Over three years the company will sell these units, leaving at least 31 wholly owned merchants and agreeing not to acquire new fine paper merchants for 10 years without approval. The company denies anti trust violations and expects sold houses to retain Mead franchises. Named merchants include Cleveland Paper Co., Dixon Paper Co., Billings, Boise, El Paso, Grand Junction, Salt Lake City, Amarillo, Noland Paper Co., Hull Paper Co., and others across multiple states.
