Babson Predicts Minor Recession in 1953
Economist Roger Babson told the Winter Haven Civic Club that a mild recession will occur from now through 1953. He advised business leaders to prepare for competition, live frugally, cut expenses, avoid debt, and hold cash. He said the downturn would be milder than the 1930s due to cushions like pensions, government mortgages, high bank deposits, and rent controls. He also noted tulips planted last fall should bloom more in May with spring watering.
