Toxic fumes from Arkansas train derailment prompt evacuations
After a Cotton Belt freight train derailed near Lewisville Arkansas a chemical on one car exploded sending flames and toxic fumes. The main fire persisted as crews worked to clear overturned cars and repair the track. About 200 residents sheltered at Stamps High School while others stayed with relatives or in motels. Three crewmen were treated at Magnolia Hospital in satisfactory condition. Roads reopened but many residents remained away from homes due to fumes.
