State budget may tighten reins on charter schools
Ohio House Speaker Jon Husted says the budget will cap charter school growth to improve quality and protect traditional public schools. The plan proposes a 35 sponsorship limit per operator, new startup caps, and criteria ensuring fiscal and academic success before new schools open. Public school districts would gain time to win back students lost to charters. Cox News Service

Plan for early retirement raises split vote in county elections
The plan would pay Betty McGary between 68000 and 70000 annually while she collects about 64000 in a pension. County officials say five year savings exceed 50000 yearly, but one commissioner and one elections board member oppose citing leverage and politics. The elections board approved 3 1 with Schwarz dissenting. McGary may retire between June 2005 and May 31 2006.

Jones contends the revised 25.1 million budget cuts 1.3 million and 18 filled positions, with prisoner housing costs still under negotiation.
