Easter Island Visit by Captain Cook and La Perouse
RAMON COFFMAN recalls Captain Cook's four day stop at Easter Island where natives coveted sailors hats, the unusual statues, and the later aid from Count Jean de La Perouse. The French noble funded livestock and fruit trees, admired sculptors who carved large faces without metal tools, and promised future travel notes on their carving methods.
