Major earthquake devastates Anchorage Alaska

The large Alaskan city of Anchorage suffered severe damage after a major earthquake on a Friday night. Buildings along Fourth and Fifth Avenues were hit hard, with the McKinley Building and a 14 story apartment block among the damaged structures. A Tacoma family of six was hit by a tidal wave from the Alaska earthquake while sleeping on Beverly Beach in Depoe Bay Oregon. One child drowned, three missing, the mother injured, and the father hospitalized for shock. The McKenzies, Me and Mrs Monte McKenzie and their three children aged 3 6 7 and 8 were in sleeping bags when the wave swept the shore.

Islands Not Hurt By Tides

A series of six tidal waves washed ashore on Hawaii’s major islands after the Alaska earthquake. Maui reported minor flooding in two towns with two to three inches of water in flat areas. Honolulu Harbor was cleared of vessels and two liners were sent to sea. Pearl Harbor security tightened with ships double tied. No significant damage reported on the islands.
