Breast cancer screening seen saving lives despite risks
Dr. Benjamin Byrd Jr. of the American Cancer Society says mammography in a five year early detection project saves lives though it carries radiation risks. He notes 245000 women over 35 screened at 27 projects with none of the participants dying from breast cancer in two to three years, and cancer stage shifting earlier improves survival.
