In Greenwood Mississippi Negroes aim to march on the county court house to renew a voter registration drive despite city warnings. Cross burnings occur as police report three fires near white areas and SNCC HQ, with over 2,000 new voter applications this year.
Gen. Douglas MacArthur is alert and progressing satisfactorily after two major operations in 17 days. Col. Donald A. Campbell of Walter Reed Army Medical Center said MacArthur continues to improve and is able to converse, confirming the promise to do the very best he can.

The cornea was airlifted to Cleveland for a West Side hospital patient with a penetrating wound risking blindness. The eye bank network, created last year by Rh. B. Shreve and Joseph J. Guzowski, organized the effort.

Reischauer by a Japanese youth. Reischauer, 53, was recovering from a thigh wound with a two week prognosis while Takashi Hayakawa resigned as state minister for public safety. Police questioned 19 year old Norikazu Shiotani, the suspect, as the embassy reported the incident could not affect the US Japan partnership.
Britain’s Conservative government survived a near defeat as a rebellion left only a one vote margin on a price-fixing abolition bill. Dozens of Conservative MPs abstained to show disapproval while Labor pressed for resignation, demanding the government quit over the controversial measure.
