Operation Insanity drives birds away from Gracetown roosts

Edgar Emrich’s 60 acre farm near Graceham, Maryland, faced a mass roost of jackdaws, starlings and grackles since November. A three night offensive aimed to disrupt the birds with shotgun blasts, explosions, distress shrieks and ultrasonic waves, reducing roosting birds to about 25 percent by Saturday. Camp David residents watched as the plan possibly sent birds toward the presidential area five miles away.
