Plains land auction ends in confusion over ownership

In Plains Georgia a weekend land auction of 1056 acres by William Cochran left bidders and residents unsure who owns any portion of the parcels. Bids ranged from 14 000 per acre near town to 975 per acre. Cochran accepted 16 400 for a four acre tract and rejected the rest. He later declined a 1 250 000 bid for a 1052 acre package, then said no offer was accepted.
