Washington AP reports early data show the Kennedy desegregation order has not slowed home building. February housing starts reach 86,500 private units, 4 percent above January and 11 percent higher than February 1962. FHA and VA loan applications down slightly, but overall activity up.
A major downtown blaze in Terre Haute Indiana caused by high winds gutted ten stores across five buildings. Fire crews fought the fire for 62 hours with damage projected in the millions. Officials called it the worst tragedy in city history.
A light humorous note on prices, noting that inflation feels small or trivial, playfully arguing that a single decrease in cost is a tiny gain. It frames rising costs with a joking tone about the value of a single cent or small cut.

Reports from Nice airport said wreckage of a Comet jet carrying members of King Saud of Arabia's entourage was sighted near Mt Argentera on the Italian French border. The king was not aboard. An American pilot was reported. crew numbers unconfirmed.

Ex-President Yun Po sun defied South Korea's military junta and led about 7,000 supporters from City Hall Plaza to the U.S. Embassy in Seoul. Police barred the march to the embassy while Yun was hurried into a car. Earlier, Yun's Civil Rule party and the Shingjung party vowed a nationwide campaign to fight the junta and demanded Gen. Chung Hee Park withdraw from power.
A winter storm sweeping from the Dakotas to Michigan killed three in Indiana and caused extensive damage across the eastern half of the nation. Tornadoes and damaging winds hit Indiana Tennessee Alabama Mississippi and Kentucky with injuries and evacuations reported. Heavy snow warnings issued for New York New Hampshire Vermont and Maine as the system moved northeast, with up to a foot of snow in many areas and 50 inches in Houston Maine.
About 7 000 onlookers watched as former President Yun Po sun and ex-Premier Huh Chung were arrested in Seoul for protesting the extension of military rule.
Huh Chung announced a plebiscite plan to extend his regime by four years amid reports of student activism echoing the 1948 drive that toppled Syngman Rhee. Students fear another street showdown as opposition grows.
The joint statement by Yun Huh and three other political leaders called on Park to drop the plebiscite plan and urged him to keep his election pledge for this spring and restore civilian government by August. It also demanded release of protesters arrested for leafleting against the general.
Park declared he would withdraw his proposal for a 12 day period to decide whether to drop it permanently and would abandon the plan if tainted corrupt politicians end political life.
Overnight and early morning temperatures dip to 35 this morning after a 76 degree high yesterday. Tonight will be clear and cold with Thursday turning sunny and warmer with highs in the 50s. A windy night swept the area but no tornadoes materialized as spring approaches.
