Commission Sets Fall Start for South Highlands Sewer Plan

City Manager Charles W. Thompson told a public meeting last night the South Highlands relief sewer system should be operating by fall. The A. M. Kinney Co. will design plans in early April with bids advertised next month. Construction could begin in late May, with two interceptors on Selden Avenue carrying storm water to outlets on Wicorf Street and Jackson Lane. Lateral sewers along Highland, Carolina, Florence, Brentwood, and Park Drive would be paid by local property owners. Residents Cass Mangold and Marvin Kline urged relief from flooding before summer. The meeting also covered zoning hearings for two parcels on S Main Street and Gerber Tract housing.
