Ohio sees lowest highway deaths in over a decade
Ohio reports 1,862 highway fatalities in 1974, the lowest in more than ten years, with officials attributing part to the 55 mph speed limit adopted a year earlier. The mileage death rate fell to a record 3.0 per 100 million miles, surpassing 1961’s figure, as compliance improved and states nationwide saw declines.
