Terrorist attack kills 30 in Israel on Mediterranean coast

Arab gunmen arrived by rubber dinghies, hijacked two tourist buses, and opened fire on a Tel Aviv bound highway, triggering a fierce gun battle with security forces. At least 30 killed, 70 wounded, with 71 aboard the hijacked bus. Weizman cut US visit, Begin to Washington trip postponed. President Carter condemned the attack. Russians quicken missile accuracy threat to Minuteman

Pentagon officials say Soviet missiles are improving faster than expected and could threaten 1000 minute man ICBMs in their silos by 1983 or 1984, two years earlier than earlier projections. Coal talks show progress as UMW and operators meet

Bargainers for the United Mine Workers and the Bituminous Coal Operators Association reported “some progress” toward a settlement of the 96 day coal strike.
