Appeals court rejects new trial bid in 1991 capital murder case
In Cincinnati a man sentenced to death for stabbing his partially paralyzed mother to death in 1991 lost an appeal. The 6th Circuit unanimously rejected claims that trial lawyers were inadequate for not hiring a psychologist before sentencing. The court noted nine prior assessments were presented to the jury and held that additional prep would not have altered the outcome.
