Finland selects a seven man delegation led by Premier Mauno Pekkala for Moscow discussions on a friendship and mutual assistance treaty with the Soviet Union. Talks expected to begin around March 20 with Foreign Minister Carl Enckell as vice chair.
General MacArthur stated he would accept the Republican nomination as President Truman foreclosed his bid for the Democratic nod.
Ohio campaign leaders say Senator Robert A. Taft leads in delegates with 200 plus, possibly up to 400, and will win Ohio’s 38 delegates. Rep. Clarence J. Brown and GOP officials vow an all-out fight to secure Taft’s nomination, while Harold Stassen also competes for votes in Ohio and Nebraska.
Ohio cities debate daylight saving time with polls and council actions. Some towns like Cleveland East Liverpool Elyria and Steubenville have already voted yes while Akron and Youngstown plan May primary ballots. Public opinion splits with rural areas favoring no and big cities pushing ahead.

A House Appropriations subcommittee released critical inspection reports on Ohio Internal Revenue Bureau offices in Cincinnati Cleveland Columbus and Toledo. The Cincinnati report covers May 1 to November 20 1946 noting lax handling of tax receipts. The Toledo official had little knowledge of revenue laws and the Columbus chief showed indifference to accounts. Similar nationwide studies were conducted in 60 districts.
The House Appropriations Committee urged abolishing political patronage in selecting federal tax collectors while approving funds for the Treasury and Post Office for the year beginning July 1. The panel cut only 1.7 percent from the President's request, allocating $1,981,722,350 instead of $2,017,626,200.

Coast Guard officials in the Ninth District plan to use a helicopter for ice observation on the Great Lakes this spring. Five men tied to organized crime were arrested in a midnight Detroit raid on a Grosse Pointe Hoodlum hangout as FBI agents joined city police in a crackdown led by Commissioner Harry S. Toy. Those taken into custody include Frank Cammarata Joe Bommarito and Dominic Licavoli plus John Licavoli and others. Over 100 have been arrested so far in the campaign against hoodlums.
In Dayton Ohio a civil rights suit against Greyhound Lines includes claims for 500 dollars in damages and 24 500 for injuries after the plaintiff, an Eaton resident, was ejected from a bus on April 26 1946. Physicians for the defense are set to testify and Esther Pitcher a Dayton housewife surprised the jury by saying she intended to contact the company about the driver’s conduct. Hamlet faced an all white jury as he sought redress.
British Chancellor Sir Stafford Cripps warned Parliament that without substantial aid the economy will collapse and unemployment surge. A white paper said only the Marshall Plan can prevent severe shortages, with Britons likely to endure reduced food and clothing. It estimated a national income of £9 billion and possible £250 million foreign borrowing.
A Cleve land MacArthur-for-President Club announced a write-in drive for General Douglas MacArthur in the Ohio May 4 primaries. Attorney Melvin T. Hott said the effort would test his strength and run as a state wide campaign to encourage Republican voters to write in the general on ballots.
Senator Robert A. Taft remarked he was not surprised by President Truman’s announced plan to run for President if nominated by the Democrats. Taft, a Republican Presidential hopeful, spoke after conferring with Ohio supporters before returning to Washington.
