Changes In Tournament Setup Since 1928 29 At Schenck’s Word
Schenck recalls the early 1928 29 era when there was no tourney system. The first ticket booth was a card table in the fairgrounds lobby. Fifteen A teams and 27 B teams played a four day event over two weekends with players possibly competing three times in one day. Teams traveled between hotels and the coliseum for consecutive games and rest periods. Each team received about 27 dollars for expenses, with a 5 dollar bonus upon advancing to district play.
