Kids try POW meals at school in protest
Sixth graders at Lowell Elementary in Colorado Springs staged a week long menu of gruel to echo meals said to be served to American POWs in North Vietnam. The project drew parental support and lunchroom debate as teacher Henry Helmke noted the students chose action over letters. Helene Knapp, head of the local POW MIA committee, thanked the class as her husband Col. Herman Knapp has been missing in action for over three years.
