Americans reach out as Carter talks on CBS radio

Carter's Oval Office Call-In Delivers Frustration to Listeners

The Journal notes many callers failed to reach President Carter during a CBS radio call-in from the Oval Office with Walter Cronkite. Earthquake Toll Could Reach Three Thousand in Bucharest

Western diplomats estimated the Romania quake death toll in Bucharest could top 2,000 and maybe 3,000 after a 7.2 tremor struck Friday night. Romanian officials later reported 298 bodies found with many more buried as buildings collapsed.
