Inner space surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital greenhouse
Staff in space suit like outfits operate in a glass greenhouse within the Philadelphia hospital for total hip replacement and other reconstructive surgeries. Under Dr. Rothman and Dr. Marvel, the technique aims to cut infection from about 9 percent to 0.6 percent with laminar air flow and ultra filtration. Three similar enclosures are being built to expand the program.
